The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Centeris looking for seniors, ages 65 and up,

For seven weeks, twice a week, seniors will work on original scenes based on reminiscence while learning theatre and performing skills in a fun and nurturing environment. They'll also sing classic songs from bygone eras culled from popular musicals and the hits of their time. Throughout the Program, they'll learn vocal exercises, proper breathing techniques, rhythm, and basic music reading skills, all while singing together and having a good time. Armed with newly honed music and theatre skills, as well as an enhanced appreciation for the arts, participants will complete the Program with a public performance on Tuesday, November 13.
"Melodies & Memories" seeks to link the basic human need for creative expression with an improved quality of life for older adults. In addition to the mastery of various performing arts skills, the Program emphasizes the importance of reminiscence - which has been proven to increase self-esteem, reinforce personal and collective identity, and assuage anxiety about getting older.
The goal of the WHBPAC's Arts Education Program is to ensure that the arts play an integral role in the lives of both children and adults in our communities. WHBPAC Arts Education Programs currently provide a distinctive and comprehensive array of offerings year-round. Participation in the performing arts can unleash creative energy, help a person to find his or her unique voice, reinforce valuable life skills and support the development of an appreciation and lifelong love for the arts.
